Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a diverse ethnic background. Her parents are Malaysian as well as Sri Lankan. The father of Jacqueline is Elroy Fernandez comes from Sri Lanka. There are two older brothers, and two younger ones. Parents moved to Bahrain during the 1980s because of the Lankan civil unrest and hence her birth and education were in Bahrain. After her schooling in Bahrain her family was granted a Scholarship to study at the University of Sydney, where she completed a bachelor's diploma with a major in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. An avid lover of different cultures and different languages, she enrolled in Berlitz Language School, where she learned Spanish and honed her French as well as Arabic. In 2006, she won the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. In the aftermath of winning the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she entered the world of TV and hosted a program about Sri Lanka's business, named Lanka Business Report. Padukone is the daughter of the badminton star Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Bangalore. When she was in her teens, Padukone competed in badminton championships at national and international levels. However, she left the sport to pursue a career as designer. Padukone's native language is Konkani. She is Mangalorean from her birthplace. Padukone is a village within the Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend, who retired in the late 1980s. Her mother, who worked for a travel agency also comes from this village.
